UK Auto Locksmiths can offer an affordable alternative and they'll be equipped with the latest technology and tools to help you out. Remotes
Most seat car key drivers keep a seat leon spare key remote in the house or garage, but when they lose it getting replacement keys from a dealer is expensive and time consuming. This is because most dealers will programme the key using the car's computer which will need to be reset. However, many people buy second-hand keys off the internet that are not programmed to their car. This can be a much cheaper alternative to going to the dealer. But, these key will not start the car because they will not have a transponder chip inside them. You can see the chip (yellow) in this picture below, it is a Dual Inline Package or DIP 18 pin chip. There are also a diode, transistor and resonator, all these parts make up the key's circuit.
Immobilisers
Since car immobilisers became popular in the latter part of the nineties, car theft figures began to drop, however thieves are savvy and always looking for ways around security systems. They were able to sneak through the early immobiliser systems using a scanning tool to find the transponder's chip, and then copying it to a blank key, but since then, technology has evolved and they've had to think of new tricks.
Luckily, the majority of immobilisers we offer and fit are Thatcham Cat 2 approved. The Thatcham Research organisation has tested and certified them. This non-profit organisation is responsible for the system of grading and approval of security and alarm devices, including car immobilisers.
When the Thatcham approved immobiliser is activated, it will send a coded signal the Engine Management System of the vehicle, which blocks the engine from running until the correct key is available. If the car is "hot-wired" after entering, it will stop the engine after 30 seconds and make it impossible to start.
Of course, like computers, the immobiliser may develop problems and sometimes the battery in the interior or the key fob may need replacing. The best option is always to hire an expert to do the task, since it will ensure that everything is installed correctly and that it works.
Transponders
A transponder sends an identifying signal back when it is questioned. It identifies the aircraft to air traffic control if it is in an active radar system, and helps maintain separation between planes. The information that is transmitted by the transponder varies depending on the kind of system used.
Transponders are also employed in space vehicles and satellites to connect with Earth-based systems such as cell phone networks and other networks for communication. They receive signals at various frequencies, and then transmit the signals using a different spectrum like repeaters in land-based cell phone networks operate.
Advanced passive transponders can be used on aircrafts. They monitor the status of flight and provide navigational information such as the aircraft's location, speed and altitude. Air traffic controllers rely on the data from these transponders to control routes and ensure safety.
Many keys for personal use have a transponder chip in addition to transponders for aircraft. These chips are inactive and do not require batteries. This lets the ECU to read the signal from the transponder when it is inserted in the ignition lock.
A majority of aircrafts have a button on the flight deck, which allows pilots to turn on and off their transponders. They can also select an "ident" mode that allows the transponder to transmit its unique squawk codes, which helps it stand out an air-traffic control panel that is busy.
